About me

Currently playing the guitar in the UK's premier Rock band The Clan
History & what makes me tick.

Ok, Let's not beat around the bush, I love the sound of electric guitars. I have done for a long as I can remember athough the major catalyst for learning to play one  was seeing Marc Bolan and T.Rex on Top of the Pops way back in the seventies.

It took me a while but I eventually mastered a few chords on my sister's secondhand acoustic. The sound wasn't right though and it was to be a few more years until my first electric guitar and the all important "Fuzz Box"  allowed me into the exciting world of sustain and feedback.
I've never looked back.

In 1979 I formed a three piece rock band, Sinner, and began gigging. Coinciding with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) we toured the UK playing alongside other NWOBHM bands such as Samson, Angelwitch and Witchfynde to name a few.
A limited editon Live album - Raise Hell, was released and sold reasonably well to our growing following.

After the band folded in the mid eighties I joined short lived covers band "Stormbringer" which was fun although didn't play very much.

Next came "The Switch" - a boogie based biker band who over four years played all over the UK  - mainly at Biker Rallies and Rock Pubs. It was a good band and we played quite a few originals amongst the covers but ultimately grunge arrived and we  had trouble getting the gigs. we called it a day at the end of 1992.

I took some time to think about what I wanted to do next during which  I recorded a couple of solo tracks, one - memories remain, was an unexpected hit on US College radio. Following the hiatus came the formation of  rock/pop covers band Glassback in 1993. A slight departure for me in that I was playing more mainstream pop in addition to some rockers however the band lasted 10 years before a couple of line up changes saw it morph into Havana Clue. The last gig we played was in February 2010(?)  and although not officially broken up I think it unlikely that we will play again. Never say never of course.

A couple of years ago I dabbled slightly in the solo acoustic world of wine bars before coming to my senses and realising that my heart lies with a Marshall Amplifier turned up to 10! I returned to my roots and formed classic rock covers band "Iron Horse" who established a reputation as one of the best bands in the field.

However all things must pass and during 2010  I  recorded my first solo album, Pies, Pasties and Rock 'n' Roll.  In order to promote the album I formed a three pice rock band and this has become The Clan, which is my one and only band currently.

Iron Horse came to the end of the track in late 2010.
